Telepsychiatry delivers mental health services through telecommunication technology, such as videoconferencing (Hagi et al., 2023). This annotated bibliography offers valuable insights into the effectiveness and application of these technologies in enhancing access to mental health services, augmenting patient safety, and improving continuity of care in underserved communities. 

Introduction to the Selected Technology Topic

Choosing telepsychiatry as a technology topic is driven by its relevance in modern healthcare after the COVID-19 pandemic and its potential to address mental healthcare accessibility issues (Hagi et al., 2023). It is interesting to learn and research about telepsychiatry as this technology bridges the gaps between mental care providers and patients, offering innovative solutions to improve patient care, preserve patient safety, and streamline workflows for interdisciplinary teams. 

I searched academic databases such as PubMed, BioMed Central, and CINAHL using keywords like telepsychiatry, telemedicine in mental health, video conferencing in psychiatric care, and telepsychiatry and nursing care. Through filtering options in these databases, I identified peer-reviewed articles, systematic and scoping reviews, and meta-analyses discussing telepsychiatry’s benefits, challenges, and outcomes. By examining these sources, I gained insights into how telepsychiatry is implemented, its effectiveness compared to traditional methods, and its impact on patient care and healthcare delivery.
